STAFF EDITORIAL
The recent column entitled “Finding the gems in WSRN’s fall lineup” was well-written as well as highly informative. College radio is an integral part of college culture, and I have been very impressed by the quality of shows on WSRN, which challenge those of any professional station.
However, as a firm believer in the importance of college radio and a dedicated listener to WSRN, I feel that the article overlooked many high quality shows. I am speaking specifically of T. Nash Adamson’s “The Silent Way,” arguably the best jazz show on the air (Thursday nights from 6 to 8 p.m.). Adamson plays a mix of selections from jazz and occasionally adds a touch of other genres such as hip- hop in order to keep the variety in his show.
For nocturnal listeners such as myself, Daniel Sito’s “Rock ‘n’ Roll Lives” on Monday nights from 2 to 4 a.m. takes the cake for quality late night radio. For the morning folks, the “Mellow Music Hour” of Emily Sun (with Jonathon Harris) on Tuesday mornings from 10 to 11 a.m. is a great show to relax with or even to wake up to.
I agree that the article did a fine job highlighting a few of the “gems” in the fall lineup, but it is important to keep in mind that this truly was only a small sampling of the many quality shows on WSRN.
Listeners should count on discovering their own gems if they decide to tune in to the radio rather than head to their own music collections whenever they’re in the mood for some good tunes.
